Kristin Collier

As a warm glass artist, I create texture, organic patterns and images with glass. My interests are split between functional work and glass art panels. I use the heat of the kiln to form my glass, varying temperatures, types of glass and firing times to produce different effects. Depending upon the task, each piece can be fired up to four times.

For functional glass, I like working with a wide range of glass types, using molds to slump or drape to shape the glass. In most of my glass art panels I create images to express my love of nature and the outdoors. I start with sheet glass, add frit (crushed glass) and glass powders which allow me to produce layers, retaining some texture on each piece.

I use various glass types, glass powders, frit, stringers, and dichroic glass to create depth, layers and suggestive imagery. My hope is that my excitement and vision will be seen in each piece of my glass art.
